Spring Runoff

We got so much snow this year. So. Much. Snow.

Thankfully it's been a cool spring so we haven't had massive amounts of flooding, but it's still been pretty crazy. We had water running down Center Street in Santaquin. Some of the homes had to sandbag because the ditch couldn't contain it, and the city had to close one street because the water was running straight across it.

Summit Ridge had some flooding, but everyone showed up to help sandbag and save the houses.

Farrel says he's never seen Santaquin Reservoir so full. And he's been around for 77 years, so that's saying something.

And our poor canyon may never reopen. A new section of the road has pretty much disappeared – there's only about a foot or two still standing.

This is the part of the road that washed away a couple of years ago and still hasn't been fixed.

Payson Canyon didn't fare much better. One whole section of road above the Pete Winward parking lot is gonzo.

We are having to get a little creative to find places to trail run this spring. But we are so happy to be (sort of) back in the mountains!

Mother's Day 2023

I got very spoiled for Mother's Day. Rand made me all sorts of pictures, including this one with a vase full of flowers made from crepe paper.

He also wrote me two notes:

My mom is great at: running
My mom always says: I love you
My mom's favorite food: cookies
My mom's favorite drink: smoothies
My mom's job is: at home
I love it when my mom: plays with me
My mom is funny when: she dances
My mom and I like to: play board games
I love my mom because: she is fun

My mom is 44 years old
My mom is really good at: running
Mom's favorite thing to do is: playing
Mom always says: I love youu
My mom is happy when: she is... using? usiat? Even Rand can't figure this one out 😂
Mom is not very good at: beating me at board games
My mom loves me because: I'm happy
Mom, I love you because: she is nice

The boys bought me some new flip flops.

Aliza made this for me:

And Caulder gave me this. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but the glove is not wrong.

Burraston Ponds

We had family pictures taken at Burraston Ponds. Rand made it about 10 minutes before his dress shirt was off and he was catching tadpoles.

This is how he finished off the morning.

Also, Karah and I showed up in the same shirt. Twinning for family pics!

Torrey Trip

We went to Torrey 3 weeks ago to see grandma Jan. It is still as beautiful as ever down there.

We tried really hard to make sure we wouldn't wear her out while we were there, so we made her promise not to cook for us, and we made manicotti before we left home so we could have it for dinner Saturday night.

When we got there Friday night, she had pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad ready for us. Then Saturday she made us a huge breakfast. Then she made us homemade pizza for lunch. Then she made us another huge breakfast Sunday.

She is very disobedient.

To make up for all the cooking she was doing, we helped her plant her garden. We're basically farmers now.

After our foray into farming we hiked Kohab Canyon. It's still one of our favorites down there. The switchbacks at the beginning are rough, but the views are incredible.

Once you get up into the actual canyon there are tons of little offshoots to explore, rocks to climb, lizards to catch... Rand was in heaven..

His rock climbing only required one rescue mission.

We explored this crack, found some pretty desert flowers, and spotted a tiny little arch up high in the rocks.

We stopped at the little cabin near the park campground and tried to buy some pie, but they were sold out for the day already, so we settled for shakes at Slackers. We got back to gram's and discovered the homemade pizza, so we ate again. Then we had dinner like 3 hours later. Then we all went into a food coma.

Somehow Caulder was able to power through and play his guitar for us, which grandma LOVED.  They talked songs and chords and ukeleles in between him singing. It was so fun.

We got up Sunday, ate some MORE, and tried to drive home on a very full stomach.

If I'm honest, Cole drove the entire way. I slept off the bacon and waffles for the first 2 hours of the drive, then won an award for being the world's best road trip buddy!

It was so good to see Grandma again, and Torrey will always be a happy place for me.

St. Geezy Girls' Trip

We finally resurrected the St. George girls' trip! We used to go every summer, but it's been years since we've been down to see ...
